Sisterhood of St. Xenia

A Women's Ministry of St. Gregory the Theologian Orthodox Church

St. Xenia of Petersburg
Holy Fool for Christ's sake
Feastday celebrated January 24

St. Xenia says that we must keep our minds and hearts turned towards heaven so that we may come to dwell in the Father's house.

We are a christian women's support group and we hope to inspire each other in upholding the Orthodox faith, spiritual growth, provide fellowship with other women and to serve the Church and its community. We invite all women to participate in our meetings.

The Sisterhood of St. Xenia was started in 2006 to support the parish in a spiritual and financial way and to follow in St. Xenia's footsteps by helping to build a Church for St. Gregory's. In March of 2008, St. Gregory's was blessed to purchase a building on 3 acres of land in Moundville, Alabama and the Sisterhood continues to raise funds for St. Gregory's.

We take our inspiration from the following story often told about St. Xenia. There was a group of people in St. Petersburg who were building a Church. St. Xenia would go at night and carry bricks that were needed for the next day's work. When the workmen arrived the next morning, the hardest part of their work had been done. Finally, two workmen decided to spend the night to see who was carrying the bricks to the top of the Church. St. Xenia came again and they watched her climb up and down the walls of the church with her bricks.

Through the prayers of St. Xenia and with her guidance, may we always continue to give help where help is needed.
